Post Freeze Information

Yes it looks ugly, I agree, but…

Don’t be too aggressive at this point…it could cost you your entire landscape!

Here are some basic post freeze suggestions and general information

·         Water your plants, trees and shrubs moderately today as temperatures rise.  Last night appears to have been the last night of freeze (for now).

·         Be conservative when cutting anything back, same rules apply as after Decembers snowfall

·         Long range weather forecasting shows potential freeze again around the 23rd, 24th, 25th

·         If it is brown and crispy it is alive and well protected

·         If it is black and mushy, or like rotten lettuce.  It is DEAD!  Dead is dead!  Cut it back on the stalk until you find green wood.

·         Do NOT Cut Citrus until Mid March

·         Prioritize

o   Irrigation repairs are the most important repair to make first.

o   Next assess the damage to plants, trees and shrubs

o   Wait at least until February 14 (Valentines Day) before making any decisions on pruning
